What To Expect At Your First Chiropractic Visit

by Adrian Simmmons

More and more people are discovering the benefits of chiropractic medicine. However, for many people, going to the chiropractor can still seem scary, especially when they don't know what to expect. If you are nervous about your first appointment with the chiropractor, check out what you can expect.

Range-of-Motion Test

Before the chiropractor performs any treatments, a range-of-motion test is needed. This is a simple test to see how well you can move your neck, back, hips, arms, and legs. Depending on your complaint, the doctor may request other movements, such as the ankle or wrist. This shows the doctor what needs to be treated. It will also serve as a measuring tool for progress. After a few treatments, the doctor will reevaluate your range-of-motion to see if treatment is helping.

Joint Manipulation

Joint manipulation or "cracking your back" is perhaps the most well-known treatment associated with the chiropractor. Despite the slang and the sound your joint makes during treatment, however, the doctor is not cracking anything. The sound and popping feeling are actually symptoms of gasses being released from the joints, which releases pressure and helps regain range-of-motion. Any joint in your body can be manipulated by the chiropractor, but it is commonly associated with the neck, back, and hips.

Massage/Electrical Stimulation

Chiropractors also perform procedures called modalities. Two of the most common include massage and electrical stimulation. Some chiropractors may send you to a massage therapist right before treatment. This ensures your muscles are relaxed, making it easier to adjust your joints. Electrical stimulation does the same thing, but without a person. It uses small electrical pulses that are administered to the muscle through the skin with sticky nodes. Other modalities include heat pack, cold pack, traction, and others.

Homework

Last, don't expect your treatment to end when you leave. Your chiropractor will likely give you work to do at home to ensure the results stay. For example, if your back hurts from poor posture, your chiropractor will create an exercise plan to help prevent that pain from returning. Unlike physical therapy, however, these exercises are not really meant to build muscle. Instead, it's about stretching and standing/sitting properly.

Any new experience can be overwhelming, especially when you don't know what to expect. However, that shouldn't let you avoid the chiropractor. If you have back, neck or any other joint pain, you must consider chiropractic care or other alternative medicines like massage and acupuncture. About Me

Learning About The Benefits Of Massage

Hello, my name is Kiki. Welcome. I am excited to talk to you about the healing benefits of massage. Daily stresses and micro injuries tend to pile up over the years and cause tension to develop in your muscles. Your muscles will often remain tense until you undergo restorative therapies, such as massage. With massage, you can enjoy relaxing in a dimly lit room while a professional works the kinks out of your muscle fibers. I want to talk about all of the glorious benefits of having massage performed once a week or more. Thanks for coming to visit my website.
